Aging
versus Anti-Aging
From the moment of
birth we begin to age. The aging process is simple – it’s
a natural process that our bodies go through. It does
seem that some people know secrets that the rest of us
don’t. Why is it that some people hold their beauty and
youth while others look older than their biological
age?
It’s true;
genetics are partly responsible for the way we age – the
way we look and our physical health. Aging is caused by
the drastic reduction of the growth hormone in the body
after adulthood. That is why so many studies have been
done related to the use of the human growth
hormones.
The cells in our
bodies have a natural lifespan. Cells are generated,
mature and die off. I’ve considered the effects that
nature has on such things as wood, metal, statues, and
even buildings. Over time the effects can in some
cases virtually destroy such elements. Therefore it
comes as no surprise the damage that the environment can
do to our skin!
As cells die off
others are being generated. The key is to equalize the
generation of new cells with the loss of the old
ones. This will help lead to a healthy
glow.
When you were
young you were probably told at some point that ‘beauty
is only skin deep’. This is very true indeed.
An individual can use makeup and cosmetic surgery to
conceal the fact that he/she is aging but it is the
functions and bodily processes beneath the surface of the
skin that largely determine the condition of our skin and
our outward appearance.
If these processes
are not working as efficiently as they could be chances
are that the problem will be reflected in the outward
appearance. Makeup can hide and conceal some problems and
cosmetic surgery can alter our appearance, but if there
are real problems beneath the surface of our skin the
‘newly found youth’ will be short-lived. Remember –
cells are continuously dying.
The surest way to
promote anti-aging is through exercise and a healthy
diet. Eating foods from each of the major food groups
everyday is a great start. Avoid junk food. I know if
you’re like me that may be the most difficult aspect of
eating healthy. I admit – I love chips!
Daily exercise is
essential.Try to get a minimum of 30 minutes of some type
of exercise daily. If you can’t spare a full 30
minute increment then consider breaking it up into small
exercise routines….perhaps 10 minutes at 3 different
times during the day. Not only will this help you stay
physically fit but exercise promotes a substantial supply
of oxygen to the brain, thus promoting a healthy mental
outlook.
A healthy mental
outlook helps to promote our physical health and our
physical health is necessary for good mental health.
Basically, if you take care of yourself in one area you
will begin to promote health in other areas of your life
as well. It becomes a cycle and you are the driving
force behind it.
